I have both and they are in the same family, both are considered "wild" clematis. The leaves on both look exactly the same. Mine also resseds itself all over! Don't know how long it will take to get it to flower from seed.

margo,
thx for info. I just read this...
T and M claim seed to bloom in 3 months, not years, MONTHS!

Since C. tangutica is a wild species from Kazakstan, Kashmir and NW China there are no quotes. It would be 'Tangutica' if it was a cultivated variety (cultivar), such as 'Radar Love'. C. tangutica 'Radar Love' should have some characteristic that differentiates it from typical C. tangutica, so it would not be the same as C. tangutica. However, the idea behind the comment you heard may have been that 'Radar Love' didn't, in fact, seem to have anything special about it that set it apart from any other C. tangutica.

bboy,
Oh that makes sense. So tangutica is the species and 'radar love' is one of many cultivar names.
ok- no quotes on that got it
thx karen
