I realize that container gardening may require conditions that vary from native outdoor growing conditions , but , it may be worth considering that in the natural growing environment that the Stictocardia have all the room possible for the roots to spread and most likely to drain...

I would think that you should consider a more effective drainage setup if you think that there was an issue with root-rot from over-watering...the plants will be more sensitive to over-watering during months where the plant may be semi-dormant than when the plant is in an active growing stage...
