I have mine being trained on a metal fan-shaped trellis. Many people who have posted about theirs indicate that they either plant them along fences as a screen or have them trained on some structure (often a trellis), against a house or tree or arbor, etc. They generally need some type of support to twine along (otherwise they can grow almost like a ground cover) and can then be pruned to match the support or to create a loose hedge.

If one gets one the native honeysuckles (eg., Lonicera sempervirens, etc), there is no need to run anywhere. The asian Lonicera japonica, along with L. maacki, etc., are the invasives.
