Don't forget, since worms don't have teeth, they eat the food as it's breaking down and decomposing. A breadstick is pretty hard for them, and will take a while to get mushy I would think.

Start with something really soft and mushy, a banana mushed up, some wilted slimy greens, rotting strawberries...you get the picture.

Keep your food scraps in a container on the counter for a couple days before feeding. 1/2 lb worms won't eat a lot for quite a while. Try feeding them 1/4 cup food and check after a few days. If it's gone, increase the food a little bit.

Worms eat bacteria more than garbage so you definitely need some time to let the microbial populations get up to speed in a new bin. A lot of people even reccomend seeding your bin with food scraps and begging and letting it sit for a week before you put the worms in there, so they can hit the ground running.

But since you are already past that point my advice would be to just leave the bin alone for a while - at least a week - and just let nature take its course. Your worms won't starve (they've got your inital feeding and the bedding if they get peckish) and it will ensure that you don't overfeed and end up with a sour bin or some other form of problem.
