Sounds OK....I have just done my new bin with horse manure, shredded paper and some cardboard...will be looking at how it goes. Try and stick to what you now and try something new on a small scale.

The Mix is very light and fluffy so I am thinking it would be ideal. The peat moss may be too acidic but that can be easily corrected. What I don't know is if the worms will try to eat the vermiculite and if so, would it cause harm. I am thinking that they won't be interested which means that the vermiculite will remain until harvesting. Not a probl;em since I use the same stuff in my garden.

well i've just added horse poo to my farm for the first time and the worms love it more than anything else i've added so next bin i make will have some horse poop in it for starters

that is good to hear evoluke....I have about 30kg's of horse poop ready for the worm bins. Just need to start up a new bin sometime.

Sounds good except for the 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 peat moss. Why pay for something when all bedding you need is free all over the place. I would sub cardboard for the vermiculite and newspaper for the peat moss. Add some horse manure and you have everything you need and still have your money also.

I agree. I was just thinking why all that storebought stuff when you get the pure worm poo from edible bedding. I use a heavy duty paper shredded to cut my corrugated cardboard into 1/2 x 2" pieces and it stays plenty fluffy. This shredder doesn't require oil so the paper is not contaminated. It holds a lot of moisture but retains its shape well enough to allow alot of air circulation throughout the bin. I also add some larger pieces of card to give them places to "romp". But they eat everything. Cheryl
