fiiiiiiiinally!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

hi everybody, yesterday as I looked once again at this MG vine as it did its daily wilt in the sun, resisting temptation to quench its thirst knowing full well that excessive watering was no good, feeling frustrated that i had chosen a spot too hot, TOO SUNNY, was contemplating posting message requesting ideas for a permanent vine for this trellis that gets sun almost all day (faces W S/W)...... until this morning!plans of abandonment:abandoned!!!!

MG is enjoying shady alcove of upper leaves and has been open all day!can't wait (actually, now i can!) for all the buds to bloom!

cheers,

happy dory :)

Lots of leaves. I have two that have lots of leaves but no flowers, you have given me hope that I see may see flowers. The ones that have flowers have a few leaves, but the two with massive amounts of leaves have no flowers--I was beginning to think that something else was growing there. Beats me, I didn't fertilize and the soil is very poor. Hope that your's will bloom some more.

Excellent photo... But oh! how I wish I could see just one bloom on my MG but, alas, I watered too much during the dry spells we've had here in CT this summer. So now I have lush green leaves... no buds. Very sad Molie here.

molie- when did u palnt? it can take a REALLLY long time.
    i watered a ton too.

Well.. I planted a few in mid-June and I was careful not to fertilize. The ones far at the end of the yard don't get much water and they're blooming. This one by the deck have lush leaves and no buds at all. They're all Heavenly Blue. What else could it be???

everybody, thanks for the compliments!i am glad to share this with you all :)
dazed, the packet (from italy) just said ipomea grandiflora blu. i googled that and aside from links in italian (!) i was informed that this variety is blue morning glory. no mention of heaven(ly). but IMHO, that's what it is. (HB)
i am also waiting for blooms from a much bushier, bigger, greener leaved variety to start (lots of buds but i planted it mid june). this packet said: ipomoea tricolor compositae. pic on packet is of purple/violet and orange blooms! hope it doesn't disappoint!!!(btw, has anybody heard of this?
molie, the lush leaved vine will flower (i am almost positive :) just give it time- maybe one or even 2 more weeks. it sounds a lot like mine- loads of lush leaves for ages (mostly at the top) which are now twining around themselves and also falling forwards. it is lovely. so, aug 6th, one bloom, then nothing till this morning, then 3 and now i see it has loads of buds so the show is yet to begin in earnest. but i must confess, even that one gorgeous first bloom made my heart skip a beat. btw, i did not see buds till after the first bloom. write and tell me when it starts!!! i'll wait with you!!! just when u think it won't, it will!meanwhile, enjoy the ones at the far end.

all the best and thanks for all the feedback:)

Lovesgardening, heavenly blue does look heavenly :-) Didn't realise that you were in Isreal! Thats cool.

My morning glories are really giving me a hard time. This is the second time that they are getting infested with white flies. I have to bring out the neem spray and get to work on them tomm. I also planted some moonflower in there. Can't wait for them to bloom!!

    Enjoy :-)

In Canada that's Morning Glory called "heavenly Blue." I usually grow them every year but they take longer to bloom than the other kinds. Yours looks like it is doing great!

Yo! Somebody else's MG is having bug trouble too? I have been having the worst time. Some thrips are probably scraping their little spaces, leaving transparent spots. Some whiteflies are poofing off when I run my hand over the plant. Some leaf miner every now and then is leaving little paths over the leaves. A small brown/green inchworm with one end having little grippy arm things chews and munches the leaves to destruction. Something else, un-named and damned, is the worst - pale white/grey spots all over the leaves and NO CULPRIT IN SIGHT.
I have already pulled out the first two pots of destroyed plants and reseeded from collected seeds from the first's few flowers. I check leaves over nad under daily searching for the Enemy. I bought an organinc spray for aphids and other pests here in Israel (called Zohar Noi), and got some very little progress for about three weeks as the leaves grew and started to twine, now it's as bad as ever and getting worse. HELP. sigh. Thanks, Batya

Lovesgardening, Your morning glory is beautiful. Heavenly blue Ipomea has to be my favorite of the morning glory's. When I was in Israel last March, I wanted to find some new flower seeds to bring home with me. I was really amazed when I started to collect some red anemone seeds off a plant, I was told it was against the law to take them. I couldn't help myself though and managed to sneak in a small amount for myself of the red anemone's. I really enjoyed my visit to your country. We are hoping to come again this Spring and bring our daughter and her husband with us.

That's it, both entire mg plants are now completely infected and full of eaten leaves, white spots, transparent spots, browned leaf borders, all the troubles you can think of. I look and look and can find no living thing, except the occasional little grippy worm muncher. Growing happily, putting out shoots, winding it's happy way up the strings, but full of damage. Any suggestions? Batya
