You can just bury the garbage without the container if you like. Works great.

I often bury my kitchen scraps. The occasional potato or tomato plant pops up, but otherwise it works well. However, if you bury something like chicken bones, animals will sometimes dig it up.

I just bury garbage (non-animal) in flower beds also in winter, in addition to keeping some compost beds and worm beds. It's fun when surprises come up in the beds. We're eating a voluteer cantalope and there's a nice butternut squash waiting to finish ripening. My favorites are the two avocado plants I just potted up to bring indoors for the winter (or give away at the next plant swap). Yeah, you have to make decisions about what to allow to grow. I have noticed that the redworms in these beds are bigger than the ones in my bins.

woodsworm, the redworms in my beds are also bigger than the ones that used to be in my bins. Also, there are tons more of them than I ever used to see in my bins.
