I let the Chickens pick over them first so they would appear brown, but as it is an unprocessed vegetable matter (though very dense) I still consider it green. Either way I see it taking a long time to break down and put them in my regular compost with the chicken manure.

the cobs are primarily carbon, the kernals and fresh husks are higher nitrogen, dried husks carbon ... to speed their disappearance, chop them up as much as possible, the more surface area the faster microbes can get on with it

and folly - "green" or "brown" have little to do with food vs bedding for worms - you want to keep the C:N ratio at a point the bin material doesn't heat up, so bedding is normally high carbon, but that material [like paper, cardboard, sawdust, etc] provides worm food as well - in fact worms can happily exist on wet paper alone [or leaves, etc]

Thanks, squeeze. I think I get it. Forego "green" and "brown" for "carbon" and "nitrogen." Go ahead and use corn cobs moderately, but monitor heat in bin.

Mine love corn cobs. I throws the leaves in there after peeling (Those hang around a while). After I eat the corn off I break them into thirds and toss in. They get swarmed within a couple of days and attack the outside and the core. A month later the cores are filled with worms. They break up easily at that point and then are like a brown material that takes a while. Sometimes I harvest the cob bits with the compost.
