Wood lice (pill bugs) help a lot in the composting process. They consume large amounts of cellulose, which would otherwise break down slowly.

With this new information (at least to me) would there be any benefit or known detriment to actively collecting more wood lice and adding them to my bin?

I can see a benefit being that they're no longer in my garden to eat my newly emerged seedlings.

My experience trying just that is that they multiply like crazy in the bin and they don't stay there. I had a bin in my garage that I put wood lice in, and we found them all over the house. If the bin is near the garden, it may make the situation in your garden worse.
