I leave water sit for the chlorine to dissipate as you have suggested. It works for me. I have read too that you can use the fish tank solution. Take your pick I suppose.

I have aquariums and worm bins. Here in Raleigh, NC, our city water has ammonia and chlorine added. I have a 10 stage filter on my tap and treat my aquarium/any water having to do with my indoor worm bins with "Prime". It is inexpensive and fast acting.

I use water out of the tap with no waiting and have had no problems. I would guess that the area of country you live in would influence the amount of chemicals used. A litle of the fish tank dechlorinator can't hurt.

Hey, I noticed you're in Cali, like me. I don't need to add ANY water to my bin, and in fact only add dry shredded paper to the bin as bedding.

I was told to add 1 cup per day. I haven't added any for over a year, and it's still plenty swampy for them. They love it.

I've been set up for just over a month, and have never needed to add water either. In fact I divided one of my beds yesterday and added mostly dry because they seemed like they might be getting too wet.(I've never put in drainage holes)
For those who do add and have chlorine, maybe they could just collect rainwater. That is, if you live somewhere that it rains. :-) We had a killer drought this year.
