I've had 2 houses with this color scheme and both times did dark green shutters.

I like black.

I would do black, it's classic and leaves you with a neutral palette. However I would like to offer the suggestions that the dated feeling of the house is not the shutters, but the landscaping. all those bushes in geometrical shapes are so 1970 that it does not atter what you do to the house, it will look outdated. I would leave the 3 round front ones and pull the back row. Add some grasses, some sand cherries or japanese maples a couple of hollies and some flowers and paint the front door in a surprisig color such as chartreuse or orange and your house will look modern and updated. I don't know. I guess I was envisioning bright navy to brighten it up. The landscapong ideas are good. It's expensive, so make sure the plant selections are appropriate for the climate.

Thanks everyone! you are so right about the bushes ... They've outgrown the bed but are beautiful azaleas in the spring. And I do think we need to pull the rest .... Spring project! like the color ideas for shutters but no orange door!

Once you get the shutters (stained wood would be my recommendation) you can go with a colonial metal roof to really make the house pop! Since you have the old 3-tab shingles, you can install right over the existing roof, saving you money on the environment and savings the landfills from toxic asphalt.

Green metal roof, black shutters and red or black door. Do see about transplanting the azaleas, maybe to the end of the house, and pull the blocky shrubs.

Perhaps a light sage green such as in these photos?
