Free-standing wisteria

I took a cutting from a wisteria that ought to be named "World Domination" because it is so agressive. It's only two years old and has bloomed five times this year, although not more than one cluster of flowers at a time.

I have it where there is nothing for it to climb on (it's on a spindly little trellis that can barely stay upright) and I was thinking that I might unwind it from the trellis and braid the three main stems together to make a sturdier trunk. Do you think that would work? My aim is to have it be self-supporting. I thought it might be easier to control that way.
