Thanks, Jason. I will probably end up ordering from wormwoman.com but hoped to get a break on the cost if someone had worms they would send me. There is not enough budgeted for teachers to get the extras but I want these kids to have this experience of composting vegetation from the lunch room one day a week.

ogsteacher.. I think you and your kids would have a great time and learn bunches, if you all tried to figure out what was happening with the worms you have now and try to manage the problem. Once the problem was figured out, your population would start to come back. If you just add more worms and still have the problem going on, then your new worms will suffer too..:(

Thanks, SQH1, for the post. I am actually seeking worms for two new bins at our school. I was going to use worms from my own personal bin at home but they have not reproduced enough to fill two new bins. I think I have the problem solved in my old bin and things are looking up, but it will take months to have enough worms to start two new bins in my classroom.

It will take probably 2000 worms to get the two new bins started. Our school cannot fund this so it will be on me to order and pay for the worms. I was just hoping someone knew of a reliable inexpensive site.

Hello! I have been offering wormies for SASE! granted, I live in MA and Ihave SASE some for the nearby states with priority postage but don't know how they will travel to the midwest or west cost ... Comments are welcome:)! We have also written a brochure on vermicomposting e-mail for those you would like to have it.

Be sure to make phone calls around town, I know in my own town there is someone who is/was trying to develop vermicomposting for the city so there might be someone in your area, and those people usually will donate to schools. Maybe check with local botanical gardens? Its a great cause hope you find something.

Thank you all for the emails and ideas of where to get help in finding worms. Several of you even offered to mail me some of your worms which was so very kind of you.

At one point in the search, it was suggested to have a loose change drive to fund classroom projects. My class ran it for about two weeks and we raised all but about $4 of the price of a pound of worms. What a resourceful class!

Our worms are thriving now in the Worm Wranch that was provided by Vermilion County, Illinois.
