carol - that ain't heat! LOL My first crack at container violets last year were my V. sororia "Freckles". Bought them as a "Buy 2, get 1 free" sale after their bloom had finished. Those babies took some major heat where I am this past summer (easily the hottest on record with 65+ days in the 90s and above and 45+ days at 95 - 103). I kept them back from my balcony rail in a bright shady location and their foliage was just as lush as can be. I had mulched them too.

Just checked them today and after one of the coldest winters that we've had since 1994 (they were completely unprotected sitting where they grew last summer), they're coming up now!!! Whooooo hooooo! First time I've ever actually witnessed violets coming up. Previously, I'd only ever seen them when they were already up and growing at my mother's house... It was always as if they instantly sprouted and matured the same day! LOL
