Rabbit litter and ammonia

Hi fellow Vermiaddicts,

All in all, it was a poopy Christmas for my family! I gave my African violet daughter a bag of black vermi gold, and my other daughter gave me exactly what I asked for--a bag of rabbit litter. Well, there was more to Christmas than poop, though. My daughter's lion's-head rabbit, Bam Bam, goes to school every day. She (my daughter) is a pre-school teacher, and Bam Bam is the classroom pet. The bag of torn egg carton-like litter with poo seems like it would be perfect bedding and manure for my worm bin, but I got to thinking. Rabbit urine is rich in salty ammonia, which is even worse for worms than all the holiday desserts were for me. What instructions can you give me for using my Christmas present with my red wigglers and Belgium night crawlers without doing them in?

Thanks, and a happy New Year to you all.

Betty
