It primarily deals with BSFL, but does mention vermicomposting towards the end. Although he's moved on to commercial ventures, Dr. Paul Olivier has also published research on BSFL.

Why are so many people on Gardeweb Cyber-Bullies?

Why are the patient, kind and loving people of GardenWeb putting up with a Cyber-Bully Troll trashing their very nice website by reserecting what will no doubt be a hundred old posts by the time he has worked his way from 2005 to 2010 and had his way with the board thus pushing new posts by multiple newer members off the front page of the board into oblivian never to even have their request heard?

Some rules are not written. In general reviving a maximun of 3 to 5 old posts a week is overlooked and may be educational. However, reviving a hundred a week may be considered by some to be waisting readers time and chase away active posters until the problem has been resolved.

So while your intent may be totally good, the usefullness of the board to both question posters and question answerers is lessened.

I apologize if by trying to deal with this I have been too harsh. The other option seemed harsher.

Understand that this is the most active vermicomposting board on the internet. In your enthusiasm to resurrect old posts, you have in effect shouted down the actual conversation that was happening here. You have taken a good board and made it useless.

Now, when we have tried to correct you politely, you have resorted to calling us bullies.

In your enthusiasm to increase the amount of conversation going on here, you may have single handedly shut down nearly all vermicomposting discussion on the web.

It is not too late to change that. We still have a strong community here. But if we can't have our board back soon, people will move on.

The problem is that there is nowhere else to go. All the other vermicomposting boards on the net are pretty much dead.

You are also blaming me for the network shut down which is not might fault because the programmers for Gardenweb had never set in a code to counteract an event like this for reviving old posts. So be mad at the Gardenweb programmers not me for the system being down.

The system is not down, and it is not the responsibility of the Garden Web programmers to force you to be polite.

What is happening is the current conversation is being drowned out by the plethora of old posts being revived.

Please give us back our board. Participate if you want to. You seem to have a lot to contribute. All we are asking you to do is stop interrupting the conversation.

There are no conversation and all I'm doing is giving my advise to old posts and plus gardenweb wants you to search the forms for topic of your interests and no 1 seems to do that they just post something that was asked in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 and don't even go searching they just post.

There ARE conversations. This board may not be hyper-active, but it is the most active vermicomposting board on the internet.

Giving advice on old posts serves no purpose. The people who asked for that advice are long gone.

GardenWeb wants you to search to see if your question has already been answered, so you don't asked the same old questions over and over again. They aren't asking anyone to re-answer those questions.

Now someone is bumping recent posts to try to bring them back up to the top. The result is that the board is showing a bunch of new posts in threads that have no new information in them. So the solution to the problem is only adding to the problem.

If what you are trying to do is get more conversations going on this board, then start a new thread by asking a new question, or posting a new comment. Or maybe you can go and try to revive the Worm Digest boards instead. They have pretty much died off completely.

What is the Worm Digest boards? Where is it and if it died out then why does it still live?

Posting a link to a commercial site is a violation of this board's terms of service, but if you google Work Digest, you will find it.

I was just over there and found out why the forum is so dead. THEY SET UP A NEW FORUM!!! And I have a direct link to the old one, which is no longer active. In any case, it is not as active as this one, but not as dead as I had thought.

The instructions for the forum cannot possibly list every possible infraction. What you are doing is rude. We have asked you to stop, and you are being whiny and defensive.

I don't understand why it is so important to you to continue your rude behavior after we have tried to explain to you why it is hurting the community here.

so forestelves, when you revive an old conversation because you have new input i'd like to hear it. if you do so and just agree with what's been said it's kind of irritating.

forestelves, it's really more a question of moderation. Someone else already mentioned that it wouldn't be so bad if you resurrected a few old threads each day. I would add that the threads should have "classic" or "hall of fame" quality posts that could benefit members old and new.

It might be beneficial for everyone to take a virtual step back and take a few deep breaths. The first critical comments to forestelves were rather blunt (non-diplomatic) and I think he reacted badly to them. It's gone downhill from there and could degenerate into an all-out flame war that would not benefit anyone.

RE: posting links to "commercial" sites. There are a number of vermi sites that could be considered commercial. However, they also have many articles, blog posts, FAQ, etc. that are quite informative. Is posting a link to one of those articles really going to be considered a violation of TOS?

I just re-read the guidelines for businesses posted here:

It seems these guidelines only apply if you post a link to your own site, or to any site that links to yours. Any site with a .com domain is considered a business by GardenWeb.

It seems to me the community is now active again to me so I did something right.
