In April, I planted some beautiful violas in whiskey barrels. They had been doing great until last week, when I started seeing a lot of dead foliage. I cut the dead stuff out, but unfortunately, more appears every day -- and in some cases, IÂve lost entire plants!

I live in Salt Lake City, and the temperature has been around 100 for the past few weeks. IÂve been keeping the soil fairly moist, and fertilizing with bloom booster every week. I also dead head on a daily basis. The two barrels get different amounts of sun, though both get at least 6 hours a day: IÂm seeing the problem in both barrels, though the shadier one developed the symptoms a week later.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Too hot? Too much water and/or fertilizer?

Can anything be done to save my remaining plants, or is it time to replace them with petunias?
