Hi Lillie, you should be able to grow any herb, but people in the area you are moving can tell you best.
It was Temple, right?
Here's a great site to look at

Hi Lillie,

As Jolana suggests, check out the TAMU website. Also if it is Temple you are moving to, then check with the Bell County Master Gardeners for more information.

Also please be aware that growing herbs in Texas is unlike growing herbs in other parts of the country, because of the high heat and high humidity. That is why we divide up the herbs by warm-weather herbs and cool-weather herbs. There is lots of good information on the Net for herb growing in Texas. Here is some information for you to check out.

Cool Weather Herbs

More Information on cool-weather herbs vs. warm-weather herbs

Some more "cool-weather herbs" are cilantro, dill, fennel, chervil, salad burnet, and sorrel to name just a few.

Some of the "warm-weather herbs" are basil, lemon grass, lemon verbena, culantro (can be used as a substitute for cilantro which will not grow here in the summer), ginger, Mexican mint marigold a/k/a Texas tarragon, and Mexican oregano. Rosemary, especially Arp Rosemary, is a perennial that will, should, grow year round in the south providing you are growing it in a well-drained bed. Arp rosemary is hard to zone 7.

Get you some good herb growing books for Texas. Two good books that I recommend for herb growing in Texas are: Southern Herb Growing by Madalene Hill & Gwen Barclay and Herbs for Texas by Howard Garrett. Both of these are the best books that you can get for Texas herbs. I have lots of herb books that I enjoy, but for Texas get both of these or at least one of these. I also like Herb Gardening in Texas by Sol Meltzer located in Houston, Texas.

Good luck!
