You're really asking which berries the birds don't like much! Seriously, there are some that they don't eat right away and some that disappear immediately. In my garden the ones that remain usually include chokecherry, coralberry, bittersweet, and cranberry bush viburnum. Crabapples sometimes disappear right away, sometimes linger til spring. Don't forget about forbs and grasses, too. I checked today, and there are still some seeds of most of my prairie flowers, plus some little bluestem. Not much left, but some.

Nannyberry (wild rasin), flowering crabapples, and American Cranberry bush viburnum is a must. But Elaine is right on with the native prairie plants. A prairie is like a living bird seed dispenser and they look nice all year. they can not be too small or too big either. I'm always amazed at how much time the birds spend in the prairie I have.

Winterberry is a must for the gorgeous red berries that the birds eat anytime between late November and late March and in between. When I first put in my Winterberry shrubs, all the berries were eaten before the beginning of January. This year, altough the birds ate on them all winter long, the food source lasted until late March, when the last of the winterberries were stripped clean. I am sure this was due to the fact that I had more winterberry shrubs than I first started with and the larger ones fruited heavily last year.

Also black chokebery (aronia) is eaten within two weeks of setting fruit in the summer here in my garden while many other people, like Elaine, have the fruit on their Aronia stay on thru the winter.
