I have tons of them coming up from runners! I just dig them up and keep them moist in soil. 100% success so far. Some of the runners have pretty good root structure, too.

Runners??? You're not talking about a TRUMPET vine are you? Or are you talking about offshoots that have fallen on the ground?

Actually, Jolana, I redid the bed the crossvine is in, last year, and added about 8 inches of well amended soil. Raising the soil level up on the trunk, is probably what caused it to put out runners.

Jolanaweb, tell me more about the seeds. I've never seen them! If I cut off a vine and poked it in the dirt, do you suppose it would grow? If so, would I cut off a woody, older vine or a new, green vine?

Thanks but I have a big vine currently. I wanted to start some for my neighbor and just wondered what the best way to do it would be. If you happen to be in the north Dallas area though, I'd be interested in taking a few off your hands. Otherwise, I'll get some started, provided I know what part of the vine to start.

I've had runners from all my crossvine cultivars too. However, those runners were a tame,slower growing 3'-5'lengths. They were easily dug up and planted elsewhere. Not the psycho plants that go all out 20 feet in every darn direction!!!(including down!) PJ

I believe I'd just poke cuttings into some good soil and keep them moist and out of direct sun. I'm sure rooting hormone wouldn't hurt.

I agree and I have a baby and some seeds I can send if you want them, I always layer when I can, it just seems easier to me.

JD and PJ, you think the runners are actually vines that have seeded from the parent?

I rooted some cuttings last fall and they put on a bit of growth but as of this spring they hadn't put on any roots. Someone ask me for them and it had started to put on even more growth so I gave them away. I hope the warm weather has helped the roots. The cuttings were still alive 6 months after being cut. I put them in rooting hormone and then in moist medium.

Some I pulled and they led back towards 'mama'. I do have a few that may have come from seed. I received my original cuttings from Carrie and once they got established (one season), they took off.

Just wanting to know because for years I have told people they stay in one place, lol

Jolana, this cross vine came from Bobby's in your neck of the woods. I don't have as many runners from mine as JD seems to have, but then my crossvine is bound by a concrete sidewalk.

I am wondering now if it makes a difference between varieties. I only have Tangerine Beauty

I don't know the name of this one, and have very little hope of finding it out at this time, but I will try.

Jolana, I just googled Tangerine Beauty, and feel reasonably certain this is the one I have. The google search also said it could be invasive, but was not specific as to the method it would use. I do not consider mine invasive at all, but then after having a trumpet vine, perhaps nothing else would seem invasive...LOL>

I have a friend in Georgia that I exchange plants with on occasion. We have found that what is wild and aggressive for me is not necessarily the same for her, and vice-versa. Perhaps it is the same with the cross vines.

I agree about the trumpet vine. My MIL said she had tried to kill it every way she could think of, nothing worked. "Oh, let me dig it up and take it home with me." I said. "I think it's soo pretty." I said. lol

It tore up chain link fence and the greenhouse and was working on DH's tool shed when DH finally got it drunk and killed it.....

Janie, I didn't see this before. They are scary but when we are going anywhere and everything is brown and dead and you see lots of pretty green with orange dots all over it, sure looks pretty, lol

The pods on mine seeme to strip off. They split on the vine and the seeds drop off leaving a center portion of the seed. So I planted them ou of their pods. I did it in the mid summer when the seeds were popping. Not many srouted and they took a long time. I forgot about them.
