Where to buy Texas Mountain Laurel? (Austin)

I'm thinking about planting a Texas Mountain Laurel, but I've got no idea where to find one. I've never seen them at the big box stores. Has anyone had luck finding them in the Austin area? I found a place online that sells them in 1 gallon containers, but I'd rather find one in a 5 gallon. Thanks in advance.

    These are so slow growing, it's often better to have a local nursery order the largest blooming size you can afford. They may hesitate if you're lower than hardiness zone 8, but worth checking with them. You might be able to order direct from Monrovia for delivery to a local nursery, but my experience has found it more dependable to have a willing manager at a local store they supply order it for you.

    If time is not an issue, seedlings are occasionally offered on ebay or Etsy (hidden among dozens of seed listings); though, these will be 3+ years from blooming depending upon the growing conditions you provide.

      Thanks so much, I may have to make a trip over there. I just checked out the Lowe's on Louis Henna, and they didn't have any.

      You might let your fingers do the walking at the price of gas and see who in the area has 5 gal Mt. Laurels. I have peope all the time call me and ask if I have this or that in stock. Any good retailer should be able to tell you what they have the size and price. At least that is the way I think.

      We always have great luck at Sledd Nursery (on West Lynn) and Barton Springs Nursery (Bee Caves Road). You may want to call one of them.

      Check out the privately owned nurseries. I'm sure Austin is busting full of them!

      Try some nurseries closer to you than Bee Cave or South Austin (obvs, call first)... like Shoal Creek Nursery, Red Barn, It's a Jungle, Hill Country Landscape, Gardens, or even the dreaded Home Depot (which consistently stocks more suitable plants for this area than Lowe's does). This isn't the greatest time of year to find them but they are actually pretty common and easy to find. Good luck!

      Green N Growin in Pflugerville has some nice large specimens. They carry a lot of Texas natives.

      Your local Lowes can order them. Tell the Live Nursery specialist that Color Spot carries them. I think right now they only have them in gallon size though.

      tiddyt, I second everyone. I saw them at the Natural Gardener a month ago and they had a bunch of 5 gallon trees. Not sure if they have them now, but it wouldn't hurt to call! They will surely have them in fall...

      There's a great nursery called Forever Gardens in Georgetown that usually has a good stock of natives, can't imagine them not having mountain laurel. Second the Natural Gardener in Oak Hill and Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves road for natives also. Ya know, none of these places are that far from each other! Via Mo-Pac, I've hit the very far north and very far south places all in the same "going to nurseries" errand loop (of course I like going to nurseries.) ;~)
