Hello....the screws are flush in this application, however we have switched to a self washering stainless screw for recent projects. We have installed and painted the screw heads, and we have predrilled, used temporary screws, and placed the stainless screws after paint to give the detail of a stainless look...kind of depends on how busy/detailed you want the look.

Regarding the seam treatment, 5 1/4 smooth hardi is placed in a grid layout on the tyvek/felt rainscreen. The panels are then applied with a blind caulk to the grid. The final step is to use a high quality polyurethane caulk to finish the seams. The seams should be finger tooled smooth in a "U" shape...keep in mind James Hardi would probably not honor a material warranty with this application..
