I think you should eliminate the side left window altogether. Then center the door and have a custom wider door made. Then put trim along either side of the door that is the width of the top of the half circle window above the door. I would create a door that incorporates long narrow windows to allow more light inside. I would then paint the door a brighter color. Perhaps red?

I agree with a centered front door. Even just making the sidelite the same color as the front door would make the facade more balanced, but that comes with a cost of blocking light into the foyer.

Paint all the trim from the top of the arch down, sidelight and door trim included. Once all painted the same the door won't see like it's unbalanced. A dark charcoal same as what's in the brick or a glossy black would look nice. Even a cream to match your shutters. Get rid of the sheer and use a film like opaque to let the light in but the peeping eye out. Is there a light fixture above the door I can't see? A large hurricane would be lovely. I know you didn't ask for landscaping advice but the shrubs closest to the house have gotten too large there even blocking the house numbers

I'd hate to see your window go. One suggestion would be to find a fabric color close to your door color and that way it will help balance it out. It would give the look as the picture above without getting rid of the window.

This might be out of the budget, but what about getting a six panel beveled glass door and putting a shutter over the sidelight. You could get creative with trim/door/shutter color.

These are all such wonderful ideas! The idea of painting a block of color below the archway seems quick and doable for me. What is opaque film? I also liked the hurricane idea too. Any ideas as to the style of hurricane?

I think the door style is good--if you painted it white it wouldn't look as unbalanced. Sand and prime well first. and yes, film or a darker curtain on the sideliight might help as well, although that doesn't seem to be an issue from a distance.. Getting rid of the kickplate might help as well. Then I would put a much taller plant (corksrew?) or other narrow accent (oblisk, in front of the sidelight, or get rid of it all together.

You house is pretty new and it can be a mess to change framing and such around doors and windows. You may end up replacing the whole thing, which would be very expensive.

It is a really nice door--you could maybe relocate it and replace with a solid door so it looks more even at night, but I don't thing that is required.

BTW, I would get rid of the shutters--they are totally th wrong size for the big window. If you can't or don't want to, paint them black. and paint the garage to match.

Glad victorianbungalowranch mentioned the shutters in passing. I hate to offer unsolicited advice, but it was the first thing I noticed. They don't fit the picture window either in height or width, and since you don't seem to have shutters anywhere else (at least that I can see) I think getting rid of them would look better. But your house is lovely as a whole--these are just tiny details.

I do agree with removing the shutters.I'd really like to keep the door. I just feel there is an illusion that can be accomplished with paint to balance the look it has.. I'm leaning towards painting the entry way below the arch a color. Just undecided. Adding a pendant is a plus as well.

You may want to start by painting everything below the arch a color and see how you like it. I think that I would paint the arch as well the same color. You can do it in stages and see what you think.

Shutters must go and a larger planter vase would balance that look - that skinny topiary makes the window area out-of-balance - If must, change door color & add gorgeous planter -

So many great suggestions. I !love this pic. The idea of painting the doorway and now possibly the archway including the mintins to mimic this look is a very real possibility. Maybe even paint the shutters on the sidelight a darker color depending on the door color. What color? Decisions, decisons. Mahogonay like pictured? Cream like the shutters in the little side window?.

Hedges trimmed down this week and spindly planter removed. Next project -remove shutters and get painter over here. I think I'm going to go with glossy black.

Glossy black sounds good , I would remove the plantation shutter from the inside of the side window and get the look of the stained glass matching the door . It would tie it in great. have fun.

What a confirmation! Once I read all of the suggestions, it got my wheels turning (I guess I had a block in creativy) and I too thought about matching the side window with a similar treatment to the glass on the door. I talked to my handy man friend and he is coming over to take a look. I'm so excited!

Thanks for asking & reminding me! My handyman is suppose to be calling me today about repainting the door this weekend. Haven't looked into the cost of a matching stained glass window for the side light. Entry way door is really starting to bug me. I'll post pics soon!

They have window film for sidelights in that pattern--for $20 or so, it might be worth a try. They actually look quite nice. Of course glass would be nicer!

Thank you so much for the paint recommendation. The painter came by this morning and he noted that the wood around the door would not look good with a gloss paint so he suggested a semi-gloss.AND, unfortunately, we had some very cold weather today, so we are waiting for it to warm up and hopefully, it will be done over the next few days. Will post a pic when he's finished!

I'll be watching cause I can't wait to see the difference, You'll be so happy.

Put a brass planter on the left side, make it large - big - substantial to bring the brass handle and
brass kick plate over to the left.

Restaining the door will also be a big help. Can't wait to see it done.

ok after a lenthy illness and recovery i'm working on my entry way again. I've used some of the advice posted now after some thought it looks like I need to paint the front door white or cream. Monday is D(oor) day so I'm going to go and look for paint in a gloss white shade. It is the least expensive way to balance the entryway. I will be posting pics next week.

I don't know if you saw my post but I think I'm going to paint my front door it a shade of white.

My updated photo. Door painted a glossy black, shutters removed from outside. new shutters installed inside. Bushes trimmed to a proper height. So far so good. It looks so much better and the centering of the door is not a big issue now that i removed the shutters and matched the window coverings. Thanks Houzz Helpers : ) !

Also removed my kickplate, and am planning on replacing gold hardware with silver nickel hardware doorhandle and knocker. It's all in the details...
