Who eats wild strawberries?

I have a fair amount of wild strawberries growing in my back yard. I decided to just let it spread as a groundcover. It grows very low, has yellow flowers and tiny (1/4") red berries. The berries don't taste like much.

Anyhow, I'm noticing that the berries all get neatly nibbled away, leaving the stems completely untouched. I'm wondering who is such a neat eater -- birds, squirrels, mice? Anyone have an educated guess?
