I live in Sheepshead Bay near the ocean and we get some stiff breezes. Gaillardia, echinacia, (e.g. White Swan, any purpurea variant), ornamental grass, (e.g., blue fescue), low growing coreopsis, should work. Good luck with a trellis and vines. If you want to grow vegetables, Redbor kale, Rhubarb or Charlotte swiss chard will do well in containers. During the summer basil should be OK as well as thyme, oregano. My soil mix is compost/manure, you may want to add 25% peat to lighten the weight, and cups of perlite for drainage. Good luck. Enjoy. I'm in Bavaria twice a year and often out of touch.
