Hmm, I hadn't noticed Costco being very inexpensive on peanut butter although I do get a couple of jugs there when all the grand kids show up. A decent buy is around ten cents an ounce for something you would eat. What I had in mind was more like a couple of cents an ounce or perhaps even 50 cents a pound.

At one time we could get peanut butter in 5 gallon tins that was not for human consumption. I do not even remember what it was used specifically for but would be a great buy at this time if I could find a source for it.

Are you interested in making your own? Usually there's sugar in the store-bought stuff.

I could make my own but would still like to find a source of inexpensive/cull peanuts or something similar to help with overall costs.

If you do find used peanut butter do not use if moldy. Aflatoxin (sp) will kill many things and peanuts are know to carry it. It does floress when certain types of light shine on it. I

We do not have a Sam's in the Area nor a Wal Mart Super store (yet).

And thanks for the heads up on the mold issue.

I am working on a project that uses quite small volume feeders during the wet weather we are besieged with here 6 months of the year. It seems to work well and I can keep them clean and fresh with much less waste. Most of the factory feeders soak up every drop of rain that hits them and the birds do not like covers that are large enough to protect the feeders from rain.
