Not sure on this one, isn't a blog just someone's online diary?

Yes it is but when I was at the library yesterday, there were a book about Blogs and describing them as "new media"--having an impact-- Sounds like the media is telling us they're important. Funny, it doesn't feel important to me.

Blogs that are just an online diary have been around for decades so they aren't at all new and are rarely interesting to anyone outside the author's friends. Political blogs are useful for keeping the faithful "on message" but seldom offer any real information. Better blogs, in my opinion are the ones that feature news and commentary on a particular topic. I'm especially fond of a couple of science blogs I check regularly.

We have a couple of blogs in our city that are somewhat political. They are an alternative to the family run newspaper that has a very conservative, republican slant. People can register and respond to posts-something I have not done-infact I do not regularly lurk around there but when I do it is usually interesting.

I publish the newsletter for my skiclub (paper version) and they want me to check into starting a blog. How much I know about it is how much you guys have told me so far. Any further info on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Catrina, it's now my understanding that it's a 'stream of consciousness' thing. Like a diary, with thoughts and bits of conversation...I see a lot of them on snowmobiling-oriented boards.

Can be fun, I guess, but I do see some ranting that can get out of line.
