What should I do with my onion set?

Hi, I ordered an onion set and have had it for about a week. We're expecting a few more inches of snow tomorrow, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to plant it. Should I plant the onions in containers? I don't think the ground is workable at all right now. I've just been spritzing them with water to keep them moist. I don't know how long they'll survive if they don't get planted.

Thanks for any help!

Are they growing? As in green tops? If so, you may want to pot them up. If they are dormant, then store them like, well, onions. Cool, dry, maybe even dark. I wouldn't mist them if they are dormant. It may be a while before the soil is workable.

Thanks tj! I guess they're dormant. You're right about misting, I'm probably just waking them up! Ok, I'll store them somewhere cool and dry, hopefully they'll hang on.
