Maybe virginia creeper or one of the native honeysuckles. Beware that even native honeysuckles can be very aggressive. Dutchman's pipe is a neat looking vine also. Poison Ivy happens to be pretty and wildlife friendly but I think you will want to rule that one out.

Very true on the Poison Ivy. I was happy to find I don't have any in my woods and I am not iviting it at this point. I am going to look at my vine with the blue flowers. I do not remember if it has roots along its joints as it creeps. Maybe any vine touching the dirt would grow them? I am thinking if it has them they are needed to help feed the plant and would not work for a topiary. My gardens are still froze but I am anxious!
