Garden Web Newbie!

Hi everyone!

I just stumbled upon this WONDERFUL site from reading about it in someones blog, and I just wanted to say...I'm amazed!! I had no idea this existed and LOVE it already!!!

I am what I call a "garden orphan". I live in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and am recently starting over again, in all aspects of my life, divorce, becoming a single mother and moving to my own home. All has been done in stride...until spring when it dawned on me that I would have to start all over with my gardens, having left a 1.5 acre garden behind and now having a small city lot. My ex husband is unwilling to let me dig up my old garden....SOOOOOOOOOOOO....if anyone has "extras" they need taken off their hands...I have a lot of bare dirt waiting for new residents!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I'm so happy to have found you all!!

Welcome to the Garden Web Lori. You will find alot of good info on these pages. I've been enjoying this site since 'back in the day' when there were about 1/3 of the forums there are now. It was more fun then too. Lots of egos and 'flaming' going on. So funny!

I had to start over gardening too when I sold my lake house, so I did quite a bit of seed starting once I had bit the bullet and put in the bones of shrubs and trees.

I enjoy reading rummage sale ads to see if they have plants for sale, also end of season bargains.

Hope we see more of you on the Wisconsin forum.

Welcome. I think you've found what I consider one of my favorite websites. The wealth of knowledge here is incredible. I am a newbie to gardening in general. I bought my first house 3 1/2 years ago and have the goal of just making the flowerbeds look better. This is the place to come with your problems and to share successes. The people in my neighborhood think I'm nuts, but here I feel right at home. Be sure to add your e-mail address as public to the system. People will see your posts and contact you privately to help. I'm sure there's somebody here who would be more than willing to share some divides.

Welcome. I love the garden web community, and hopefully you will too! I've learned a lot from this site, and my gardens are better because of it. It also helped to feed the plant "addiction" I already have. I also have found a lot of good plants at rummage sales.

Hi, I just read your opening request and I have lots of plants to share right here in Manitowoc. If you get to the viscinity of the New Copps or the Old Copps for that matter, I'm one block west of them, on South 35th. Right now you can't miss my place, it's all decorated with the little yellow maple fliers all over the sidewalk, lawn and street. I love trees, but sure wish they weren't so messy in the spring. You'll probably find me in the back yard where I spend most of my time. I have at least 50 more tomato plants to set out. They are blossoming already in the little greenhouse I have.

    Lori,

Welcome to the party! I love this site for helpful tips and tricks. I live just south of you down in Sheboygan and I travel up to Manitowoc quite a bit. I'm heading up there on Saturday for the plant show in Washington park. I have 2 heirloom tomato plants left from the original 80 I started from seed this spring. They're yours if you want them. They are an Abraham Lincoln and an Italian Heirloom. Let me know, and good luck!

How about an update Lori? Its always fun to hear how someone has resolved a problem. Have you found any bargains yet? You will the end of this month, for sure, as most of the big chain stores sell out all their stock.

Last year, I got 4 new Heuchera and 4 new Hosta in late summer. My daughter planted them for me, and I used a bagged compost to cover and protect them for the winter.
All survived, and most are doing really well. I did, however, buy them from a local nursery, because I was recommended specific varieties from some regulars on this forum.
Let us know what you found. Pondy
