Red barberry in my front yard was cut down a bit by the landscapers, and all the new growth is brilliant, hot, pink! So beautiful.

I know nothing about trimming shrubs, but these two guys are right next to the public sidewalk and need to be kept from arching over and snagging someone.

I remember one landscaper saying to cut long limbs from the bottom. Makes sense. So how can I get this lovely

color most of the summer without a 'butch' haircut?
