Right now is a great time to shop for daylilies because many of them are blooming or near bloom time.

There are hundreds of daylilies that are orange. I highly recommend buying them from a reputable nursery in Wisconsin or one of the other northern states. Even seasonal garden centers at retail places like Lowes might be bringing in a nice selection of daylilies. Also try Steins if one is near you.

A good place for daylilies near the Madison area is the Flower Factory.

Another great source for daylily in Wisconsin is Solaris Farms in Reedsville.

Asclepias tuberosa - butterfly milkweed. There are some named forms.This is a little different from daylillies but easy to find & a friend to butterflies. Take a look & see if it would work for you. I saw them blooming at the Chi Botanical garden today so they should be coming into bloom in WI shortly. They are a nice orange- not too yellowy.

I Just heard that Eberts Nursery is going out of business -- you might find some real bargains there. I assume they will have a big sale, altho we've heard they are filing for bankruptsy.

Another orange plant that I thought of is Orange Gnome maltese cross. It has bloomed since spring for me.

Janet, I was going to go out to Solaris on Wednesday, but I didn't end up going because of the storms.

The storms were crazy. At one point, I couldn't drive more than 25 mph and still see the road in front of me. If I hadn't take a wrong turn, I would have driven through the hail.

I'm so glad we didn't get the hail - I'd hate to see what tennis ball sized hail would do to a garden.

How about Mexican sunflower for a brilliant orange.

Geum. There is both abeatuful orange and a yellow versions. These are perennials that like a lot of sun.

You might also try Gerber Daisy. I think it is a perennial? Maybe a self seeder?
