For the past 2 years I have successfully built a cat enclosure based on some of the ideas I have read online. The left & right hand sides of the yard has worked with dowels at an angle and mesh stapled to the dowels so the cat thinks he will fall off the mesh if he tried to scale the fence.

However, the back part of the yard is more of a challenge since there is a fence, but it has a few trees here and there so that I cannot use the same strategy. I have been somewhat successful with stapling mesh to the back of the fence and stapling it to the trees and even sewing different kinds of mesh to others so it looks like a ceiling. About every 6 months he finds a gap so that he can get through it and walk on top of the mesh to the adjacent yards and then virtually anywhere. Weather, etc. loosens the staples and between the sheet metal collars on the trees and fixing things as I go along, it's quite a mess of mesh back there. Once again, he's getting out and it's back to the drawing board which requires more stapling, sewing mesh to mesh, eliminating any gaps which isn't easy. It would seem that there must be an easier way.

I just want my cats to be able to be outdoors too and safe in our backyard but one of them tends to want to wander and he's smart. I'm pretty tired of outsmarting him, and would really like to hire someone who is experienced at building something on a tree wall that is successful as mine fails intermittently. Is there such a person?

Anyway, any feedback is greatly appreciated. I thought of putting sheet metal along the back of the front of the fence because he can't scale that material (I already have some up between me & my neighbors yard to prevent him from going from railing to railing on the deck. I can't just keep him in after 6 years. He would drive me crazy.
