I still carry a notebook with me when I roam around the garden, and jot down what I planted, and where, and future ideas, and what's blooming, etc.

Then I transfer everything to lists on my computer:

Gardens (list of everything planted in each garden).

Plants (lists of all Daylilies, all Hostas, all Alliums, all Spring bulbs, all trees & shrubs, etc.)

Maps (of each garden, done with Microsoft Office Excel)

I DO print everything out, BTW, just in case my computer crashes. During the winter months I update everything from my notebook.

I can edit this any time I want, then print out a new sheet, as the garden changes.

Wow! Julie, you are way more organized than I am. Very impressive!!!

I keep track of my plants using excel. That way I know what plants I already have and where in the yard they are planted. I can then export from there to my brother labeler and print out plant tags for my plants.

I also do image maps. I take a picture of my gardens and then use my photo software to label the plants.

The image map sounds like a great idea, too.
I couldn't do that with most of my gardens, because I have many Spring bulbs planted between the perennials, and I need to map those too, so I don't accidently dig them up.
