Sounds like Virginia Creeper or woodbine - Latin name Parthenocissus quiquefolia. The link has pictures. It eventually gets blue berries - the fall color is an excellent vivid red usually. On the down side, it can sometimes smother out foliage in the crown of a tree.

It's virginia creeper. It's native, but can be hard to keep ahead of. Beautiful fall colour, too! April

Definately Virginia creeper. Watch out! keep it near dead or dying trees because it can strangle the living ones. Dies back in winter but comes back in spring- Fall colors are wonderful! and also look out for pop ups other than where you see them now. Get rid of it in places you aren't willing to sacriface. (Imagine kudzu... naw not near as bad... but still something to keep under control)
