I am a garden designer and I have a quarterly garden column in an upstate NY publication. I like writing about the culture through the lens of gardening. My articles are political, psychological, and I hope humorous. I look at trends- like "using red mulch" to talk about our fad culture. I can't stand reading too much Latin or "How to articles."

Are you implying red mulch is just a fad? It has real data behind it and stands on it's merits.

From a design perspective, think of all the things you can use it for? Art deco gardens!! Red, white and black plastic mulch arranged in bold geometric patterns to make the most conservative blue-blood gag, but shell out the big bucks for the hot new garden designer with the original ideas!
