I've left my brugs out until it really got frosty. Even with a light frost, they bounced right back with only tip damage.

For me, the most cold sensitive plant is basil. Sorry to hear about your husband. How is he doing?

I don't know what to tell you either but wanted to give a little support for you and your hubby. I hope he is recovering nicely!

I always wrap things in sheets and blankets if I'm afraid they will freeze. I also put any pots I may have (which aren't many) on the side of my house that is sheltered from the north wind. There is quite a temp difference in that area and that's where they spend the winter. That may not work at your place, though.

Ferns and palms will be fine in the 40s. You could always throw a light towel, burlap or sheet over the others. Personally, I only cover plants or put them in my unheated greenhouse when we get a freeze.

Debby, your brugs will love this weather..... mine are in full bloom now and the blooms last longer. They can take a light freeze better than a frost. I, personally, am not bringing anything in until we get notification of the first frost.

I don't worry about any of my plants until the first frost date. Can't find my almanac for this year or I'd know when that will be. The brugs and most of the flowsering plants even the potted ones love the cooler temps.

Everything you listed sounds like it will be okay till we get a frost/freeze. I just have one tropical crinum in a pot in Quitman that I wish I had brought in - doesn't really like the 40s.
