It's one of 1,500 N.A. species of cranefly--is that close enough?

Actually, I was hoping that someone could narrow it down just a bit.

Hey, Larry. I saw a little brown moth. Can you help?

Seriously, that would be a stretch on the cranefly. Perhaps the local university could narrow to the top dozen. Good luck.

Maybe Doctorant knows. The cranflies around here do some minor lawn damage; they range from 1" to 3" in overall size and have clear wings with perhaps one colored cell. A few years ago, while on a hike in the Cascade Mountains (of Oregon), I tapped a small rotting stump and out popped two craneflies with ornate wings like croakie's; so craneflies like the above picture are widespread.

Since the croakie cranefly is not a small or large clear-winged type, I have narrowed it down to one of 1,498 species.
