Good luck. Been thru my share. I'd say you're in for at least 2 weeks of itching. Scratching the bites makes it worse and may cause infection and scarring.

Aye, Pam! Chigger bites are rough! They do last a long time. Find an OTC analgesic gel that may dry them as well?

Old time remedies that help sometimes--clear nail polish or vaseline. The point is to suffocate the mite. A quick fix--apply as much heat as you can stand. It numbs the nerves and stops the itching for a time. I use a small glass bottle with water in it heated in the microwave (take the lid off while heating) and press it to the bites. Chiggers are really tough!

birkie, you're operating under the common assumption that chiggers bury themselves under their victim's skin...but (thank goodness!!!) that's simply not true. That awful itching comes from our reaction to the digestive enzymes in their saliva.

Chiggers, though they may try to attach themselves to a warm blooded animal in order to get a blood meal, are easily washed or rubbed off. Then, it's up to us to find a way to get rid of that awful itch!
