Changing the Forum Name

Do you think that GW would consider changing the name of Butterfly Gardening to Butterfly AND Moth Gardening. A lot of people post moth pics on the Insects Forum, and I frequent that forum just to see pics of the ones that are not posted here. Since they are both lepidoptera, it would seem logical that they might be willing to do that.

What do you guys think? Larry_Gene?

I think that the moth aspect of butterfly gardening is implicit, and that changing the name is not likely to drive hoards folks to that (Butterfly Gardening) forum. There is a great deal of interest in moths in the Butterfly Forum (as there should be), and I don't see the Insect Forum as a detriment to that.

Remember, the reason that this forum (Insects) is so interesting is that it is used for identification purposes and image sharing. The Butterfly Gardening Forum is largely used by folks who garden expressly with butterflies and moths in mind, as well as by those who raise butterflies and moths.

Visiting both forums is a plus, in my opinion.

Not trying to do away with the Insects forum. It is just so broad, that some people post the moth pics here and forget about the BF forum.

I disagree about Insects being used for ID and image sharing purposes only. Many of the moths are ID'd on the BF forum because they can't be ID'd here. Lots of great entymologists frequent both forums, I agree. I just thought it would be simpler to put both moths and butterflies together, because a lot of people want to garden for both. I know most moths are generalist feeders, but a lot of them use pretty specific plants or at least plant families.

We should have both Insects and Butterflies and Moths IMHO. I see where you're coming from too, Rhizo. But, most forums (I'm on others), and books, websites, etc., include "Butterflies and Moths" as a package deal. The Butterfly forum is used extensively for ID purposes and image sharing as well.

You misunderstand me. Almost completely, lol! But I can see that I've not made myself clear. It just seems a rather pointless idea to me. The BF seems bursting with great moth images, ID requests, and observations already. Butterfly gardening IS moth gardening. I've assumed that the vast majority of people sort of get that.

In the past few years, there has been a burgeoning interest in moths and their caterpillars in the BF and I just don't see the need in a name change. That's my only point.

It never occured to me that you wanted to eliminate this forum.

Whatever makes you happy...just don't start a campaign to start a separate moth forum, lololol! That's JUST what the GardenWeb needs is another forum. (I'm kidding, by the way....)

Good luck with the name change thing!

Oh, that might be a good idea, WebKat - a separate forum for moths! Just kidding!

Actually, I've gotten two positive responses on the Butterfly Forum. So I'm hopeful that we can do it.

I guess I misunderstood your first response - my bad! I would never try to affect the Insects Forum. In fact, I love it, too! I just thought it would be less cluttered sans moth IDs and photos, and more space could be devoted to.........ugh........bugs!

There are so many moths they will clutter both forums.

I do think moths should get their due by appearing in a forum name. Just don't clutter it with beetles!
