I will give you one hint....it has been ID'd on this forum before.

Get to searching!

Since this is a project for your class, I think that this is something you should try to do yourself....

Come back when you think you have it and we will let you know!

Crack that whip, Webby! ;)

If it's not dead, be verrrrry careful how you handle it!

Soooooo....has OP found a match yet?

We are waiting on you.....

tap, tap, tap....

Not much of a clue, that: Like looking in the dictionary without knowing the first letter of the word!

Your type-of-insect is a "true bug", of the Order Hemiptera. Try researching "plant bugs".

Now just call me spoil-sport/whipping boy!

Where are all the little brown moths?

Ummmmmm....a-hem....

Its a Wheel bug!

Philmont...did you not read the rest of the posts??

We were trying NOT to do the student's assignment for him.....

Dag nabbit!

Buy the books, buy the books...go ahead and eat the pages...humph...:o)

doh!!!!!! im so sorry. :(
I was so excited that i knew what it was i guess i didnt pay attention.
please forgive me

BTW, Philmont, Webby's our Hall Monitor. :)

...and I would still like to know how the student was to search this forum for an insect he didn't know the name of!

Search for "insect": 52 results, no help in the message titles.

"bug": 60 results, no help here!
"identify": 11 results. (cannot use "ID" for search term)
"blurry": no results.

But if the student read all 123 of the above results, he certainly would have found it, unless he used the search method (the name I forget) where you search halfway on a list, then halfway, etc., reducing the number of searches, if the student was even that advanced, and must have been, because the student hot-posted an image and used words like ecology, insect, and buncha.

My guess is the student found the answer long before this silliness was posted! I'm giving this student and Philmont an A-.

Surely, the teacher gave information to the class about how to ID insects....

Larry_gene you are cracking me up!! "because the student hot-posted an image and used words like ecology, insect, and buncha."

Too funny....:)

We could have sent him to Bug Guide to look at the zillions of images if Hemiptera! THAT woulda teached him!

Tee-hee! I actually thought of that...would have been sheer torture...

guess what! i saw one of these today!

The squeaky wheelbug is getting the grease.

I still hope that the bug in the image was deceased! I'll never forget the scenerio when one of my fellow entomology students was stabbed by one of these things. His eyes rolled over in his head like a broken window shade and he screamed like...well, a GIRL! (Which I can say because I AM one.)
