Fritillaries

Hello, all - This is my first post on this forum, although I've been reading the posts with interest, I only recently became a member. I took this picture here in the Twin Cities this summer, and wonder if one of you experts could tell me which species they are. Thanks - Tucker.

It's a "greater", rather than "lesser" fritillary. For your location it is most likely the "Great Spangled Fritillary"; note the wide pale band on the hindwing underside. Is that some kind of violet plant they are on--it is the host plant for many fritillaries.
