Snake ID, please!

My step-dad and I are in disagreement about what type of snake this is. Can someone please tell me for certain? I live in Central Virginia. Thanks!

    Pretty ... and non-venomous.

One of the "rat snakes"? Some of them are vividly colored as juveniles.

It's a baby Black Rat Snake(Pantherophis obsoletta), a very common species in Virginia. Most people, I guess, expect the babies to be black like adults are in this region, but that isn't the case. This one is very typical of a hatchling Black Rat.

Close ... It's a grey rat snake. the gray rat snake is one of five subspecies, or races, of the black rat snake (E. obsoleta).

Gray Ratsnakes don't make it up to Virginia. It's a Black Rat as the others stated.
