I remember years ago we had deposit bottles. Instead of smashing your old glass bottles in the bottle bank, where a fair amount of processing would be required to make the mess usable again, you took your intact bottle back to the shop for 5 pence back. This was way back when recycling as it is known now was unheard of. I remember as a kid seeing empty deposit bottles floating around in lakes and rivers, and the mess I got myself into retrieving them so I would have enough in deposit bottles to get a quarter pound of sweets. My mom had other opinions when I turned up back home dripping wet, soaked though to the skin!

I very much believe in the principal of re-using - at every level, from small common objects to major building materials, machine components, etc. In fact, I've been striving for months to find people who are engaged with this. I've been looking for the "kindred spirits" who find satisfaction in doing a useful things with the leftovers of civilization. And as much as I do enjoy art, I'm not so much interested in artistic or decorative re-use or repurposing (though I'm fine with other people's interest in these).

This is just a thread on a fairly obscure website, but it's somehow gotten about 15,000 views at this point. Can anyone help me find more people involved with the sort of repurposing exemplified in this thread??
