Mercury Autism link

Mercury is the second most toxic metal known to mankind and as many as 140 different symtoms have been ID. In fact it is so toxic that the EPA measures for it in parts per trillion now.

Measurable amounts are being found in ongoing studies of newborn babies. Which means its already inside and coming from Mom.

To request a 50% reduction over fifteen years is basically handing out a life sentence of misery to yet unborn children and their families. Do a little research and take a look at the data over the past twenty years of the increase in number of autism cases.

This kind of callous attitude is not only unsustainable, its revolting and complete nonsense, if not criminal.

This country needs Homeland Security protection from the Whitehouse!

Gee, if GW can talk to God about invading Iraq, why doesn't he ask him to start over with a clean slate for the environment? Or wouldn't that be a profitable reque$t!

This is not about donkeys and elephants as both are at fault to one degree or another, its about taking action now, not 15 years from now. My sounding off on Bush in particular is because of his callous and indifferent attitude and the fact that he himself says he will not place the environment over industrial interests.

there is some hope, at least the awareness is out there.

Thanks for the concern nagamaki, I am there with you in spirit over the concerns, hopefully others will become aware of mercury poisoning problems and other options will be made available.

There must be some way to utilize coal as a fuel, yet filter out the mercury before it is released into the environment.

Evidently that study on Mercury wasn't Sound Science....it didn't "sound" good to the corporate powers that have our so-called value leaders in their pockets.

At Bush's press conference today with the leaders of Mexico and Canada, one of his pronouncements was we have to work on cleaning up the environment. I can only guess he was speaking about Mexico and Canada.

Sounds more like the usual bromides about supporting education, the nuclear family or senior citizens. Mother, apple pie and the right to life!

This from a recent The Onion:

EPA To Drop 'E,' 'P' From Name

WASHINGTON, DC - Days after unveiling new power-plant pollution
regulations that rely on an industry-favored market-trading approach to
cutting mercury emissions, EPA Acting Administrator Stephen Johnson
announced that the agency will remove the "E" and "P" from its name.
"We're not really 'environmental' anymore, and we certainly aren't
'protecting' anything," Johnson said. "'The Agency' is a name that
reflects our current agenda and encapsulates our new function as a
government-funded body devoted to handling documents, scheduling meetings,
    and fielding phone calls."
The change comes on the heels of the Department of Health and Human
Services' January decision to shorten its name to the Department of
    Services.
