The concept of a meta-reserve would require active promotion at all levels of government to succeed. To achieve that goal, there would have to be vigorous public debate, followed by the election of leaders who would champion the actual creation of these reserves. Can wildlife preservation become a "hot-button" issue capable of competing with the terrorist threat?

I think there are several"hot buttons".Most likely from an anthropocentric maternal perspective related to the health and physiological development of our offspring and a projection of what might be required to help ensure our reproductive viability over several generations to come.But our future cannot be predicted.Suggest keeping an eye on China's development as an emerging nation, its impacts, and how our own country responds...

I agree Eric. A meta-reserve would require an incredible amount of government intervention and micromanagement. This is one of the reasons I don't think it is workable or desireable.

Wildlife preservation isn't scarey enough to compete with terrorism. No ones life is placed in immediate danger because another tiger died. People, at least in my culture, tend to be shortsighted so unless there is overwhelming proof regarding the future viability of humans, most concerns are swept aside.

Sorry, if it is not marketable, it has no inherent value. New homes in bucolic rural settings are marketed for their ambiance; of course, in 5 or 10 years the rural qualities are lost to development and no one is fined or goes to jail for scamming. By that time there are many nearby shopping malls and strips and overcrowded roads, schools and, other elements of infrastructure. When your immediate environment degrades, you don't worry about the wild.
