Dozens of Chemicals Found in Most Americans' Bodies

The concentration is especially high in children, a national study says. But experts aren't sure what the health effects are.

In the largest study of chemical exposure ever conducted on human beings, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that most American children and adults were carrying in their bodies dozens of pesticides and toxic compounds used in consumer products, many of them linked to potential health threats.

The report documented bigger doses in children than in adults of many chemicals, including some pyrethroids, which are in virtually every household pesticide, and phthalates, which are found in nail polish and other beauty products as well as in soft plastics.....

It may get down played as everything is a chemical, even water, being H2O.
Its encouraging for me to see that the chemicals are being labled and identified as toxic and this can not be denied.

I didnt see anything about any binals and that is another but of the same issue being toxicity in the blood stream and its manifestation in the body.

Nonetheless, I think its progress that this type of attention is getting out and awareness and/or enlightenment is occurring more.

WASHINGTON, July 21 Â As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today releases its third national body burden study measuring the pollution in people, Environmental Working Group (EWG) calls upon the government to begin testing the umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. EWG also sent letters to 20 top chemical manufacturers asking them to release any internal tests to determine whether their products pollute babies.

The letters follow a benchmark investigation EWG released last week commissioning laboratory tests of 10 umbilical cord blood samples for the most extensive array of industrial chemicals, pesticides and other pollutants ever studied in newborns. EWG found that the babies averaged 200 contaminants in their blood, including mercury, fire retardants, pesticides and the Teflon chemical PFOA. In total, the babies' blood contained 287 chemicals, including 209 never before detected in cord blood. ...**

How ironic! Expectant mothers shunning caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. - seems they may be wasting their efforts >= P

Thanks Carol, more reasons to get active and clean up the environment- its all starting to hit home more.

I was wondering how they test for chemicals in the blood. I know that when testing water such as wells for drinking /potabilty that only certain chemicals are tested for and that if a chemical(s) was not requested to be tested for that perhaps it would be overlooked.

I did a google and couldnt find anything that would help me understand better. Perhaps some one of knowledge could enlighten me on that. Appreciate it.
