Sometime after the industrial revolution. It's a cast/forged mass-produced item. It's a component of a machine that used identical parts so they could be easily replaced with new, instead of mended, when broken or worn out.
There may be a part number cast into it revealed upon closer examination. In fact, I think I see an "26 2 36" there

To me it looks like a broad tooth cultivator point for a tractor mounted spring tooth cultivator.

Tractor mounted cultivators were principally introduced in the mid 1940's and were phased out in the late 70's to mid 80's with the introduction of chemical herbicides.

Judging from the appearance it looks like it is made of drop forged iron or steel, but I would be more inclined to believe iron because if it were steel it would be darker, almost black in color.

Thanks for the help. The number on it is 28 (triangle shape) 128. There is some more writing above the numbers, but I can't make out what they say. I'm trying to clean it more to see if I can make out what it says.

It may be a cultivator point. It seems to me that it was in the ground for a long time. It was several inches deep in the ground between a large pine tree (about 18" to 24" thick) and another tree as well as grape vines growing up into the 2 trees and underneath plenty of roots. I'll post back if I can make out what the other writing is. Thanks for the help.

It appears to be a cultivator point. Similar designs were used for both horse drawn and tactor equipment. The usual material was steel.

A smaller version may be found on hand pushed gardening cultiavtors. One to three blades were mounted under a pair of handle bars with a wheel. These were not very effective. After about 15 miuntes of thrusting the blades between the rows, it was very exhausting and the user realized he had to finish weeding with a hoe anyway. The result was that the hand cultivator would be abandoned and the job done with a hoe as it had been done before.
