Retro kitchen colors...

Can anyone tell me the different colors used in kitchens during the 40's 50's and 60's as in color schemes and collectibles.

I remember turquoise, pink, red, green and black & white but can't put a date to it.

TIA

We built our 24' by 40' ranch in 1956, and are still in it. Still have the pink with boomerangs counter top, the walls were pink and gray marble plastic tile, with a top row of turquoise. Floor was dark brown linoleum tile, with pink, turquoise "spots".

In 58 we bought our ranch in 59 and had pink and yellow boomerang counters, with yellow and red vinyl tile floor.
For a shower gifts I got a pink pyrex casserole and a turquoise and black coffee carafe, with a black candle warmer and a pair of turquoise ash trays that sat in brass stands.
Those colors quickly gave way to the harvest gold and avocado craze....the pink and maroon was earlier 50's...but I don't remember accessories in those colors.
But there were peaiods of colors in kitchen utensils and bowls...the dusty blue crocks and bowls were first, then came green. The handles on rolling pins and can openers etc were av ery distinctive green, which gave way in the late 40's to red.
Hope that helps...just what I remember.

Our old farmhouse had white beaded board and white cupboards. It had linoleum floors in kind of a pretty speckled beige, blue, and cream. All the appliances were white. One wall had horrible wallpaper, teapots and cups on an off white background. Table and chairs all oak of course.

About 1954 to around early 60's pink was in.... Tubs, toilets, countertops with maroon and grey accents.
About 1963 we had turquoise appliances and the counter tops were white formica with little gold "starbursts" on them.
Then after that we had Avocado Green and Harvest Gold.
And now we have Sage Green and Saffron.

In the early 50s, late 40s, we had lime/apple green walls, red ceiling and white cabinets with checkerboard black/white tile on the floor.

The colors I most remember are the ones used in dining furniture. For instance, we had a turquoise and white formica dining table with chrome legs. The cusions were a little more padded than some I saw. This particular one also had chrome nail head trim. Oh MY!

We also had a red one, also chrome legs. Infact my mother still has it.

Linoleum flooring is what I remember best, although the black and white or red and white tile was popular.

In the 50's and 60's we had turqoise painted walls and white chromed trimmed formica with silver starburst which I only recently got rid of. The linoleum was cream coloured splattered with sticks and squares an dots that were red, gree, yellow, black ando orange. Before that linoleum the floor was a turqoise greenish colour with what looked like to be snowflakes. When we remodeled the kitchen recently we found a piece of that flooring under the cupboards. Our kitchen table was silver with chrome legs with leaves that pulled out on each end and the chairs were brown vinyl square chairs with the bended chrome legs that were open in the middle in the back. There was also a bench that the boys used to sit on.

My grandparent's kitchen in the 50's from pictures I have the kitchen was yellow with green and white checkered flooring, the backspalsh cream coloured linoleum squares and the countertops were either black or dark green. They had a cream coloured cookie jar with the three bears on it which my cousin stil has. The wall hangings they were 2 decorative ceramic plates about 12 inches across that had a 3 dimensional medival/castle theme. I remember using my fingers to climb the big stairs on the plate to reach the coat of armour and the castle door. (I had a good imagination) I loved those plates and when we removed them from the wall a couple of years ago one of them was dropped and it shattered. They also had ceramic flower pot holder hooks that hung on the side of the cupboard near the stove. They were yellow sunflowers with red pots. I seem to remember they had smiley faces and eyes on them. LOL The table in the kitchen was bright yellow with chrome legs, the chairs they used were bright red vinyl covered wooden chairs (I still have the table and one chair). They also had one of those high chairs that had steps that folded. They also had a big huge upright freezer in the kitchen that still worked when we got rid of it a few years ago. The kitchen was huge. My grandmother also had pyrex bowls and used a lime green casserole dish for her green jellow and cream cheese salad. My memory of grandma's coloured pyrex is what started my passion for collecting vintage pyrex. I don't know if this came later or not but grandma had linen croched pot holders that looked like dresses that my other Grandmother made.

Those are the colours I remember from my childhood in the late 1950's and 1960's.

I have a 1950's era downstairs bathroom ("new" addition to a 1930's era house) with pink tile, burgundy commode and lavatory, and small black and white ceramic floor tile. Etched glass walk-in shower surround. It's fabulous, I tell you.

Oh me...I remember our first house which had been built in the 50's. Bathroom was pink and gray/black tile, pink toilet and tub. Kitchen was gray and pink tile counters and gray tile floor with white cabinets.

OK, pals, get out your cameras, turn off the flash & take some pictures of these babies. They sound great, and usually, the only time you see a true vinatge kichen these days is as a terrible "before" shot where they're planning on ripping it out in favor of a granite-&-stainles-steel "Tuscan" keeping room--whatever the hell that is.

Anyway, authentic rooms like these are an endangered species, so they need documented before they're all gone. Who wants to go first?

Hi there Magnaverde...good to see you!!
You don't want pictures of my 1950 kitchen...white walls, white plywood cabinets with no trim on the doors...just flat plywood :^). The floor was brown and bright gold squares, but had to be replaced last year due to water line "fatigue"...better known as a flooded kitchen/bath and bedroom!
The only thing really odd is the countertop/backsplash is all one piece with a curve at the junction rather than a square back. They covered it with brown formica!!! It's still there, still ugly, but works perfectly so according to DH...why change it if it still works??!!! He is lucky to be married to a lazy ol' gal that just insists that things are clean!!
