We bought all our vanities and vanity tops w/sinks from Lowes, 6 vanities and tops in all. I am pleased with the quality of them all. I have gotten many compliments on the granite ones we chose for our master bath. The carrara tops we chose for our kids' bath are really nice. You also can't beat the price. For just about 5K in the door (tax and delivery included) we were able to outfit four bathrooms (two with two vanities each) with vanites and mirrors.

Cant comment on the countertop but i recommend that you use large marble tiles for the floors. 16x16,18x18 or 24x24. Less grout is a blessing !

Chefnewbie, that is good news. I am planning on buying an absolute black top from HD and a Cararra top from Lowe's. In the store, the black one is $199 and the Cararra is about the same. I am so excited. I have seen them in person and they look good enough to me. For that price, I can't beat it.

I will also consider a vanity from there for a basement bath. I plan on getting a vanity from Home Decorators Collection. I think it is about $750 and comes with top and sink.

Pharaoh - I like the way you think! I love the marble & ceramic basketweave, and even some of the hex tile too. But (1) the thought of cleaning all that grout is a turn off (2) our home is not at all historical. While I do love subway tile, I didn't want to go totally vintage. I thought the larger 12 x 12 or higher marble tile would be a nice way to go.

Actually I really like the Catarina tile that folks on here have been using. I'm sure cleaning is even easier than real marble and you can't beat the price. I am concerned that there isn't enough variation on the tile and with a real marble pice in the bathroom one might be able to tell.

I also like Black granite too. It's even cheaper than the marble!! Oh, decisions!
